Zachary Tomlinson is a New York-based theater director and producer. From 2017 to 2023, he served as the Artistic Director of The Center at West Park, a non-profit community performing arts center in the historic West Park Presbyterian Church. From 2014 to 2017, he was the Co-Artistic Director of Strange Harbor, a theater company that created contemporary adaptations of classic texts.
Recent projects include King Lear with Hamlet Isn’t Dead at The Center at West Park, Anne Carson’s translation of Antigone at Brooklyn College, The Glass Menagerie at the Glove Theatre in Gloversville, NY, and @muse_me, a devised play created with Brooklyn College students over Zoom.
Zachary has a passion for language and collaboration, including devising from found text with ensembles, crafting new scripts with playwrights, and stealing words from dead authors. He has collaborated on apartment plays with The Representatives; worked for Manhattan Theatre Club, Lark Play Development Center, and The Civilians; and trained with Elevator Repair Service, CalShakes, Theater Reconstruction Ensemble, and The Shakespeare Forum.
Zachary has an MFA in Directing from Brooklyn College and BA in Theater and Literature from Sarah Lawrence College. Originally from San Francisco, he lives in Brooklyn with wife, Sarah, and son, Noah.
